Movie Poster: All These Sleepless Nights

Often times, I find myself wanting to watch a movie after seeing a particularly captivating poster. This is exactly what happened when I came across this poster for All These Sleepless Nights, a film directed by Michal Marczak. I love the layout of the typography as well as the grainy 35mm film-esque photo used within the text. The combo is executed perfectly and appropriately represents what little of the movie I have seen (trailer.)

New York Public Library found a box of questions posed to librarians, pre-Internet

People Google a lot of strange things. But while the anonymity of the internet certainly helps them feel comfortable indulging certain inquiries, our curiosity as humans didn't start with the invention of the search engine.

"If we didn’t have the Internet right now, and you were looking to find out information on the migratory patterns of blue birds, you couldn’t just go to a computer and ask," says Morgan Holzer, New York Public Library's Information Architect. "You had to find an encyclopedia, which were expensive, so you would go to your library. And if you were at the library and didn’t want to find an encyclopedia, there’s a person standing right there who you could just ask and who had been trained to either give you an answer or tell you where to find an answer."

And sometimes those librarians in the general research division—who are responsible for fielding all sorts of inquiries, either over the phone or in person—wrote down the questions they were asked.

How to create zoom thumbnail image effect on Squarespace

Squarespace offers a solid amount of design features with each of it's available templates. On the surface, it appears that there are limited effects you can apply to thumbnail images and full images. Think again. You can use the custom css code below to create a zooming effect for images that are active with click-through links when scrolled over.

The process is super easy.. Just copy the code below and place it in the 'custom css' section of your Squarespace Design tab. Once you've done this, each of your images that has a click through URL should have the zoom scroll feature shown above.

a img.thumb-image {
   display: inline-block;
   vertical-align: middle;
   -webkit-transform: translateZ(0);
           transform: translateZ(0);
   box-shadow: 0 0 1px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);
   -webkit-backface-visibility: hidden;
           backface-visibility: hidden;
       -moz-osx-font-smoothing: grayscale;
   -webkit-transition-duration: 0.3s;
           transition-duration: 0.3s;
   -webkit-transition-property: transform;
           transition-property: transform;
 }
 a img.thumb-image:hover,
 a img.thumb-image:active {
   -webkit-transform: scale(1.1);
           transform: scale(1.1);
 }
